The leads were cast early in the process by Brayden Clay and Jaxon Smith. They saw their dynamic as central to the story.
They specifically envisioned two leads of Hispanic descent to shape an underlying connection and emotional depth of the film. That choice became the foundation for how the characters evolved on screen.
